In this chapter current efforts in Canada to expand and strengthen adult literacy research capacity are described and the newly emergent research culture is critically commented on. Domestic factors that currently influence Canadian adult literacy research efforts are highlighted. Research developments in the UK and US are reviewed. Trends in recent Canadian literary research publication patterns are considered. The final section discusses factors that may influence this research culture in the near future.
