The interconnectedness and reciprocity of assessment, the work and the learning in constructing identity

This paper explores notions of the self and identity and draws on data from a qualitative study conducted with workers in the food-production industry. The paper engages with aspects of one worker's daily experiences 'on-the-job' and dimensions of self that emerge through the reciprocity of his work and assessment and the learning that emanates from these encounters. The findings may have implications for the ways in which workers, as 'whole' persons, could be assessed more effectively on the job.
