Understanding reality of Indian management: my journey from manager to academician and trainer

This article highlights some of the issues relevant to integrating practical experiences with the academic knowledge. It highlights that, in the absence of proper blending of theory and practice, we find a tremendous gap between the two. Based on various research work undertaken by the author, a number of issues have been raised about the role of management development teachers/institutions, faddism in management and the functioning of the Indian bureaucracy, and how training could be made effective through proper understanding of the real world of managers and organisations in India.
