Findings of cohort study on polytechnic graduates acquiring university level education

In 2006, the Ministries of Education (MOE) and Manpower (MOM) conducted surveys on polytechnic graduate cohorts from 1995 to 2000 to better understand the growing trend among polytechnic graduates pursuing university education. The findings indicate that four in 10 polytechnic graduates were expected to obtain a university degree within five years of graduation and the 'upgraders' had higher wage increases when they completed their university programs in three to four years relative to a shorter program of one to two years, suggesting that skills and human capital take time to acquire.
