Education, training and economic performance, 1944-1990

The aim of this book is illustrate some of the main shortcomings in educational provision which are particularly relevant to Britain's economy. Attention is focused on the major sectors: compulsory education; vocational education and training; higher education; the education and training of managers. There is a discussion of the general relationships between education and economic growth and development, and an examination of the British postwar experience in aggregate terms. Chapter 7 looks at some of the ways in which educational and training deficiencies have affected economic performance. The final chapter considers the reasons for Britain's poor showing in this field.
