The recognition of overseas qualifications and skills

This discussion paper was among the policy options papers commissioned by the Office of Multicultural Affairs as part of the process of developing the National Agenda for a Multicultural Australia. Its purpose was to stimulate community discussion. Topics covered include: review of literature and previous research; occupational regulation; development of mechanisms for recognition of overseas qualifications (models of valuation, professional and technical operations, trade occupations); potential discrimination in the then existing asessment processes; recognition practices in other countries; services for the overseas trained (information, counselling, translating, interpreting, bridging courses); options for change.
