The Leonardo da Vinci project 'Training for the integration of migrants into the labour market and the local community' (TRIM) ran from January 2002 to January 2005. It involved the cooperation of further education organisations from Estonia, Finland, Germany, Italy and Norway in developing proper training for individual immigrants in responding to labour market demands, developing their flexibility, and integrating with both the workplace and the community. Linguistic and specialist vocational training are recommended in combination with theoretical and practical knowledge of culture if immigrants are to become fully integrated in the workforce and society. This handbook provide a theoretical framework for providers in developing a modular-based training program. A common approach to the second language both in, and for, the workplace, and the transferability between different branches of industry, is used to demonstrate the framework, illustrated by examples of best practice from the partner countries.
