This study is an attempt to identify the competencies required by future Indian managers. Nine factors consisting of 29 behavioural competencies are identified and used in the study. The important competency identified in this study is strategic perspective. The next factor given importance is achievement orientation followed by self management. Critical thinking and decision making is ranked fourth followed by communication, team leadership, interpersonal skills, accountability and responsibility and industry knowledge successively. A competency centric integral human resource [HR] system will provide [the] basis for HR strategies of procurement, development, compensation, integration and maintenance.
