This report documents a study of further and higher education (FHE) lecturers' perceptions of their professional accountability and the maintenance of standards in vocational curricula. Although a relatively small-scale survey, involving 104 lecturers and 35 heads of department concerned with 56 different courses in nine colleges and two polytechnics in the UK, the Further Education Unit (FEU) views the issues raised as genuine and requiring serious consideration. The report shows that lecturers do take their professional responsibilities seriously and identifies some 'apparent misconceptions' about education measurement.
