This report follows up and builds on an initial policy statement of the Further Education Unit (FEU) on curriculum development for a multicultural society. It contains a checklist of questions for reflection under the broad topics of equal opportunities, multicultural issues and issues of racism. Further chapters provide examples of policies from local education authorities (LEAs) and further education colleges, methods of implementation, and a summary of evidence from two recent local surveys of current provision carried out for the FEU. Guidelines for generating and applying policy in this area are included. Included as appendices are: Official documents on education in a multicultural society; Effects of racism in society: facts and figures; Glossary of terms commonly used in race relations; References; FEU activity and current multicultural projects; Membership of FEU Multicultural Advisory Committee.
