This research project examined vocational training schemes and techniques for individuals with low or no literacy. Its main objectives were to: analyse how effective these schemes have been in providing training for employment and other income-earning activities; examine major difficulties encountered and ways to overcome them; review technical, financial, institutional and sociocultural implications in the planning and implementation of various types of training schemes and projects for individuals with low literacy levels; and review the specific methods used to provide skills to this group, including conventional methodologies, instructional materials, mass media and the new instructional technologies.
