Trade based pre-employment students in Australia: a national survey

This report presents the results of a national survey of 1983 trade based pre-employment course students conducted in 1984 on behalf of the National Training Council by the Surveys and Evaluative Studies Unit of the New South Wales Department of Technical and Further Education (NSW TAFE). The term 'trade based pre-employment courses' refers to a group of courses variously known throughout the TAFE sector as pre-apprenticeship courses, pre-vocational trades courses or pre-employment trades courses. The two major objectives of the national trade based pre-employment survey were to: (1) determine the proportion of students in trade based pre-employment courses who obtained apprenticeships or other full-time employment; and (2) ascertain the reasons for students withdrawing from trade based pre-employment courses.
