This serial supplements 'Knowledge and understanding: its place in relation to [National Vocational Qualifications] NVQs and [Scottish Vocational Qualification] SVQs' (Competence & Assessment Briefing Series no. 9). More in-depth guidance is given on the relationship between occupational standards and knowledge and understanding. This serial describes how a full consideration of knowledge and understanding is essential in the development of occupational standards. It examines how evidence of knowledge and understanding complements evidence of performance; how it contributes to the quality of evidence; and how it contributes to decisions about whether there is sufficient evidence that a candidate is competent. The target audience is composed of those who design and develop occupational standards and these vocational qualifications.
