Annual report 2004-05

The mission of the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) is to be Australia's leading provider of quality, independent information relating to vocational education and training (VET) to governments, the sector, industry and the community. Its vision is for policy and practice in VET to be based on sound evidence. June 2005 marked the end of an era in VET with the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) being disbanded and its functions taken over by the Australian Department of Education, Science and Training (DEST). Key highlights for this year include: completion of the review of the Australian VET Management Information Statistical Standard (AVETMISS) for VET providers; completion of two major surveys, survey of Indigenous students who took part in training in 2003 and a follow-up survey of young students who took part in training in 2001; and revision of the approach used to estimate recent levels of apprentice and trainee activity to improve their robustness and transparency.
