A review of the TAFE National Centre for Research and Development, established in September 1981, was carried out in the first few months of 1984 to see how the Centre had performed during its initial period of operation and how it could most effectively continue to meets its objectives. The terms of reference were to: review the activities and accomplishments of the Centre and make recommendations for future activities; recommend changes, where necessary, to the mission, aims and objectives of the Centre; recommend changes, where necessary, to the structure, administration and organisation of the Centre; and make necessary recommendations on the membership of the Company, its Board, the method and level of funding, staffing arrangements and conditions, and relationships with TAFE authorities and other bodies. This summary report presents statements about the operations of the Centre, its achievements to date and recommendations. The findings indicated that the Centre had an important role to play and should continue to operate on a permanent basis.
