In 1997, a number of projects to address access and equity issues for specific population groups that were identified as being under-represented in training and employment were funded by the then Queensland Department of Training and Industrial Relations. The Vocational Training Access Project (VTAP), undertaken by the Logan Regional Resource Centre, was one such project. It sought to identify the major barriers to accessing education and training in rural and remote areas and creative ways to address these barriers. A Rural/Remote Working Party was established for the identified target group 'people from rural remote locations' to develop and implement a coordinated approach to overcome the access and equity barriers. This report documents the data collected and analyses the information gathered within the context of the national vocational education and training agenda for rural remote communities.
