This study set out to profile the electrotechnology industry workforce, and to understand how the industry is adapting to the rapidly changing environment and how well it is positioned for the future. Through an analysis of extant data, combined with 25 in-depth interviews with contractors, training providers and vendors, this study found that rapid changes in technology and the development of the information communications and technology (ICT) sector over the past two decades have created significant challenges for the electrotechnology industry. Technological developments in electrical equipment and changes in regulatory requirements are creating a need for a more highly skilled electrotechnology workforce across a broader range of applications of the technology.
