The Review of Government Service Provision, established in 1993 by heads of governments in Australia (now the Council of Australian Governments or COAG), provides information on the effectiveness and efficiency of government services in Australia. This 11th Report of the Review, presented in two volumes, contains performance information on 14 service areas. Volume one contains: Introduction; Education; Justice; Emergency management; and the CD-ROM attachment. Volume two contains: Health; Community Services; Housing; and the statistical appendix. The section on education covers the school and vocational education and training (VET) sectors. The chapter on VET focuses on the performance information (equity, effectiveness and efficiency) for government funded VET and reports on the VET services delivered by providers receiving government funding allocations. Enhancements to the chapter include: reporting on 'government recurrent expenditure per load pass' and 'cost of capital per load pass'; a stand-alone indicator for Indigenous VET participation; revised data items resulting from the redesign of the Student Outcomes Survey; 'students meeting main objective for doing a course' and 'vocational outcomes' indicators with 'student satisfaction with VET' and 'student employment and further study outcomes' respectively; and reporting on skill outputs from VET. The chapter is presented in eight parts: Profile of vocational education and training; Framework of performance indicators; Key performance indicator results; Future directions in performance reporting; Jurisdictions' comments; Definitions of key terms and indicators; Supporting tables; References.
