Skillnets, an enterprise-led support body, was established in 1999 as an independent private company under the National Training Fund through the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment in Ireland. Skillnets aims to address the lack of investment in human resource development (HRD) and training by Irish businesses by promoting and facilitating learning as a key element in sustaining Ireland's national competitiveness. Skillnets provides help to companies through the Training Networks Programme which allows a group of companies to come together in a Training Network to achieve a common purpose or address a shared issue of importance to the development of skills and their long-term competitiveness. This publication contains case studies that show how Skillnets networks have benefited regions, industries, businesses and individuals. Each case study provides an overview of the specific Skillnet, highlights the benefits to member companies and profiles an individual employee's experience of the Skillnet and its impact on their role in the company. The case studies are: The Leinster Engineering Technical Skillnet; North May Skillnet; CREST Retail Excellence Network; IBEC Retail Skillnet; IMDA Skillnet; MIDAS Skillnet; The South East Micro Skillnet; First Polymer Training Skillnet; National Partnership Training Skillnet; CON_ECT Skillnet; The ACBI Skillnet Retail Training Network.
