In the present competitive world, the institutions offering technical education will survive only when they adopt different Quality Improvement (QI) strategies. Institutions in India and world over have adopted successfully QI strategies like ISO 9000, TQM [Total Quality Management], Benchmarking and Business Process Reengineering (BPR). Kaizen and Six Sigma are two strategies that have been successfully adopted by industries and businesses world over for quality improvement. Kaizen is a Japanese concept, which strives for continuous improvement of the processes. Six Sigma is a business strategy and a systematic methodology, use of which leads to break through in profitability through quantum gains in service quality and customer satisfaction. This paper gives an overview of these two techniques and tries to explain the application of these techniques for technical education for improving the student results, which is one important indicator of quality.
