This article examines and identifies instructors' competencies in the Department of Production Engineering (DPE), College of Technological Studies (CTS). The objectives are to examine the influence of instructors' competencies in shaping students' knowledge, skills, and attitudes in relation to the requirement of the workplace. The study is based on extensive fieldwork that encompassed a review of related literature, questionnaires, and personal interviews with the Dean of CTS, Kuwait; the head of the DPE, Industrial Production; selected instructors; and students. In addition, meetings were held with selected supervisors in local industry, and with those supervising the DPE graduates in Kuwait, in order to seek an insight into views toward the quality of their performance in the workplace. Finally, the article argues that unless instructors in the DPE have the necessary competencies, CTS will not be able to supply the local market with the required skills, thus increasing the dependence on expatriates for years to come.
