This article highlights the cooperative technical teacher training program developed and introduced at Dunaujvaros Polytechnic (DP) in Hungary. This program provides students with the opportunity to train for two professions simultaneously; engineering or technical teaching. Approximately three quarters of the total number of training hours are devoted to engineering subjects and the other quarter to pedagogical subjects. Cooperative features of the training create strong links between DP and industrial companies in practical professional training for its students. Links are also made with vocational secondary schools in pilot teaching projects run by DP students. The authors describe the modular and credit-based curriculum, and suggest that this pilot program can offer useful lessons for the development of Hungarian higher education.
