Learning contracts are formal, written agreements between a learner and someone who is helping them to learn, which state what the learner will learn and how that learning will be measured. They can be a valuable component of self-managed or individualised learning, and are described as particularly useful for work-based learning and for the development of skills and competences. This book is targeted at tutors, trainers, coaches or mentors, and aims to help them, along with learners, to develop more effective and worthwhile learning contracts. The chapters of the book go on to examine: how learning contracts relate to skills and competences; the design and development of a contract; learning needs analysis; negotiation skills; agreeing on assessment measures; and the importance of providing the learner with support.
