Networking among organisations involved in training adult education specialists

This chapter does not focus on one topic but brings together a collection of innovative experiences. Topics include a review of the networking done by the Institute for International Cooperation of the German Adult Education Association (IIZ/DVV) in Southern Africa, an overview of a project aimed at the improvement of textbooks, a description of the efforts to form a national network in adult education in South Africa and a discussion of HIV/AIDS as an adult learning concern. The chapter concludes that training and facilitation have to take place in many diverse contexts and the daunting challenge of making adult education instrumental in reducing poverty requires more quality training and political support. Distance education can only be one element in a mixed mode delivery model of quality teaching for adult educators and development practitioners, with more networking around innovative practices needed.
