Situational analysis of vocational education and training in Sudan: a field study

This field study analyses the current situation in vocational education and training (VET) from the perspective of 600 students, 100 graduates, 30 instructors and 15 administrators in four states in Sudan. Data were collected via self-administered questionnaires as well as interviews. Gender disparity was evident in fewer female students being enrolled or graduated from technical education schools (TESs) and vocational training centres (VTCs). It was also evident that as federal and state funds became scarce, the VET situation deteriorated. The need for further training and curricula improvements - including the introduction of more academic subjects and the English language, upgrading technology to improve training tools and facilities, linking business and industry to VET, changing the social image associated with the VET field, allocation of more federal and state funds, and further training of staff - were considered crucial by the majority of the students, graduates, instructors, and administrators.
