This study investigated the general teaching philosophies of adjunct instructors at the Dalian University of Vocational Education, Dalian, China, in the spring semester of 2004. A researcher-designed, 6-point (0-5) survey instrument, the Philosophies of Vocational Education Scale (PVES), was used to measure what kind of philosophy drove instructors' teaching in a given situation. Data were collected from 34 (100% of 34) instructors at the Dalian University of Vocational Education regarding their general teaching philosophies. The results of the study showed that these instructors were liberal (M=3.87), progressive (M=3.90), behavioural (M=3.83), and basically humanistic (M=3.25) and radical (M=3.30) but not analytic (M=2.69) in their philosophy of instruction.
