Making work-based learning work: increasing flexibility in the delivery of Apprenticeships

The purpose of this research project was to investigate how access to and incremental achievement across Modern Apprenticeships (MAs), particularly Foundation Modern Apprenticeships (FDAs), might be facilitated through a more flexible approach to delivery. Six occupational sectors were selected for study: construction; engineering, technology and manufacturing; business administration, management and professional; retailing, customer service and transportation; hairdressing and beauty therapy; and health and social care. A total of 18 providers from across the English regions were interviewed. The interviews covered the broad themes of supply and demand, the MA framework, resources and collaboration.
