This paper begins by defining DACUM, Developing A Curriculum, an internationally recognized job/occupational analysis technique. It then goes on to explain how DACUM can improve instruction, why DACUM should be used, who uses it, how it is used and why DACUM is unique. The advantages of DACUM include: it encourages group interaction between committee members; it energises brainstorming power; it allows members of the group to motivate and empower each other to produce a high quality product; when 5-12 expert workers are motivated and guided for two days by a qualified facilitator, all duties and tasks are usually identified along with the related general knowledge and skills, worker behaviors, tools and equipment, and future trends and concerns; it greatly enhances employee support for the results of the analyses because these are undertaken by expert workers; quality is maximized; and it is low cost.
