This policy statement addresses age discrimination in employment in the further and higher education sectors in the UK. It aims to: (1) explain the state of the law in regard to age discrimination; (2) challenge the myths and stereotypes associated with age; (3) provide arguments for those seeking to challenge age discrimination; and (4) provide guidance on policies and collective agreements to fight against age discrimination in educational institutions. The first section examines age discrimination and UK law, research into age discrimination in the UK workforce, recommended actions to eliminate age discrimination in employment, and associated NATFHE policy. The second part of the document presents a model policy for age equality.
