Work-conducive learning

Australian and European research demonstrates that better integration of work and learning is now vital to the development of the contemporary workforce. In this paper, the authors suggest that vocational education and training (VET) providers need to design learning to support the needs of workers in contemporary workplaces. They report on research that examined new learning practices emerging in a number of contemporary organisations. The aim is to explore how the more formal VET system can become more supportive of work. Practitioner-researchers researched and reported on two key examples of how learning is used and managed in their organisation. The main workplace learning activities used in their organisation and the role of different learning practitioners in these activities were described and analysed. These case studies were analysed and compared to assess the ways that different organisations are using and managing learning. Based on this analysis and the review of existing literature, a model of work-conducive learning was identified.
