Location, location, location: implications of geographic situation on Australian student performance in PISA 2000

This report examines the effect of geographic locations on the performance of students from schools around Australia who participated in OECD's Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) in 2000. Among the findings are: females outscored males in reading literacy in all locations; schools in remote areas tended to have lower levels of resources; and the results for Australian students located in major cities and inner regional areas were above the OECD average in reading literacy while outer regional areas and remote/very remote areas were at or below the OECD average.
