The emergence of informal learning has drawn attention to a form of learning that seems to do without formally organised instruction: skills are acquired in passing on the job and during leisure time. The following questions are addressed: How sustainable is informal learning? How can it be linked to traditional, institutionalised vocational education and training [VET]? Other topics include: sustainability of informal learning; individual skills development and social control; learning without teaching - pedagogical professionalism; empirical skills; and measuring informally acquired skills.
