Returns to investment in higher education

The principal aims of this report are: to review and uncover new research evidence on the returns to individuals and society of higher education in Australia; to examine the evidence on returns to quality in higher education; to review the evidence on returns to university research; to provide sound estimates of government expenditures on, and government revenue that results from, higher education; and to evaluate the role of higher education as an export. We also seek to draw out the policy implications of the findings and highlight further research needs.
