Previous research carried out by the European Commission has found that older adults can play an active role in society and are an important resource with the ability to assist in the solving of social problems. This particular book has the aim of assisting in the implementation of formal policies, with the foundation of recognising older adults as an invaluable creative force. The methodologies through which older adults become active are studied, and previous schemes which have proved sucessful are analysed. The result is a guide on methodology and a curriculum model for the training of older adults as helpers in educational processes, and as resources in adult education. The book is comprised of three sections: The key issues - a European perspective for productive learning; The guiding concept - a framework for person-centred approaches; The curriculum model - a practical outline for older helpers.
