This study analyses the functions of adult education as a basis of other educational policies and systems, such as professional education and training. The book encourages the creation of an educational climate which permits effective practical study throughout a person's entire life, regardless of factors like age or profession. An analysis looking at the interconnections between adult education organisations and the work of other systems found that four main functions existed: complementary, support, anticipation and autonomy.
