Preparing for the global challenge: European Union-Canada, European Union-United States: two cooperation programmes in education and training

In 1996, two programs for cooperation in higher education and vocational education and training (VET), EC-Canada and EC-US, were set up to address the challenges of how to adequately educate and train the workforce in an era of globalisation and the transfer to the knowledge economy. The aim of these programs was to encourage transatlantic student-centred cooperation between institutions of higher education and VET and other organisations. The programs provide funding for cooperative projects with US or Canadian institutions and they bring together at least six partners from different EU Member States and the US or Canada. This publication contains the results of the first three calls for proposals of projects and provide examples of a wide range of innovative projects from the programs. Project descriptions and contact information are provided for each project.
