Perspectives on institutional and organisational flexibility in VET

Beginning by distinguishing between the institution and the organisation, this chapter reviews the previous two chapters (indexed at TD/TNC 78.470 and TD/TNC 78.471), which both provide a positive vision of the future for vocational education and training (VET). The author takes a view of critical skepticism. This chapter discusses markets versus society, questions whether companies versus individuals' needs are focused on, and examines the orientation of the previous chapters towards these issue. The issue of innovation as elitism is discussed and again the author examines the position of the previous two chapters. It is suggested that further analysis of innovative responses from VET organisations would complement existing perspectives on institutional change.
