The framework presented in this document, developed by Australian Health Ministers, is Australia's first nationally inclusive health workforce strategic framework. The framework reflects current and future labour market constraints, and recognises personnel shortages and maldistribution within the health workforce. The framework reflects the evolving nature of the health workforce and anticipates some major changes in the industry's future. It provides a positive and proactive approach to meeting challenges, offering a vision, principles and strategies for the industry. The vision is based on a set of workforce goals. Seven guiding principles form the foundation of the strategic framework and have been designed to accommodate individual circumstances at different levels. A range of potential strategies are outlined in relation to the seven principles, offering broad strategic directions towards fulfilling the health workforce's vision.
