This paper is taken from the ninth group session on Wednesday 24 July 2002 at the International Vocational Education and Training Organisation (IVETA) Conference. This paper focuses on the challenge of understanding and developing employability. The author draws on comments from managers and employees, to illustrate the issues associated with employability. The author discusses the positive and negative perceptions of employability and factors which contribute to a person's employability. A strategy for employability is presented, and the author suggests that community projects and shared visions provide the inspiration for individuals to commit to developing employability.
