'Skilled labour' (indexed at TD/TNC 67.138) presented the findings of research into migration flows to and from Australia by occupation, country of origin or destination, citizenship, age and gender over the five year period 1995-96 to 1999-2000. Its main aim was to assess the extent of any losses or gains of such workers by occupation over this period. This current report tracks the pattern of skilled worker movement to and from Australia for the years 2000-01 to 2002-03, focusing on professional workers. Overall, the net gain of skilled workers to Australia during the past three years has been larger than it was in the late 1990s, with most of this gain being amongst professional workers. The contents are: International movement of skilled workers; International movement to 2002-2003; How significant is the net loss of skilled residents?; New Zealand: a special case; Losses of highly qualified residents; Conclusion.
