Transferring knowledge and experience to students: a case study of a training program on experience in industrial standards for technology teachers

Under the support of the Hong Kong quality education fund, a two-year training program was made available to technology teachers (mainly design and technology teachers). By offering a training environment that was fully equipped with emerging and enabling technology in product and process design, and with trainers who were experts in these areas, the program was expected to give technology teachers the opportunity to obtain hands-on knowledge and experience in industrial standards, which they could later transfer to students. This paper first briefly presents the structure of the program, and the overall evaluation of the results. While training teachers to be capable of transferring their knowledge and experience is one of the key objectives of the program, based on the findings of questionnaire and interviews, this paper then discusses the difficulties and possibilities of transferring knowledge and experience from teachers to students.
