Learning together, thinking together: a critical review of a teaching and learning strategy monitored and adapted over three years

Three years ago at this conference we shared the teaching and learning strategy used to role model and coach critical thinking skills within a Diploma of Adult Teaching and Learning. A bonus outcome from that teaching experience was that it reinforced the concept that teaching and learning in an adult environment are by nature and of necessity entwined. Since then we have continued to implement and evaluate the three teaching activities that make up this strategy, we found of course that different groups responded in a variety of different ways. We have invited the students to reflect on their experiences over the last three years, during which time our practice has evolved. As well as revisiting the original activities three years on, this paper discusses the evolution of this course, the impact on the total qualification of which it is a part, and its influence on our teaching practice.
