Advances in developing human resources, vol. 3, no. 2, May 2001

This issue of 'Advances in developing human resources', entitled 'Origins of contemporary human resource development', examines the role of the US government's Training Within Industry (TWI) Service as a key influence in contemporary human resource development (HRD). The first part of the issue presents a statement from the Academy of Human Resource Development on the occasion of the induction of Channing R. Dooley, director of the TWI, into the HRD Scholar Hall of Fame. The second part provides an overview of the TWI project, and explains its significance in HRD. The third and major part of the issue, reproduces extracts from the original 1945 TWI report, written by Channing R. Dooley.
