This paper explores employment issues relating to care workers, particularly the employment opportunities available to women with consideration of the dynamic nature of the profession. The paper draws on studies of 10 countries: Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Netherlands, Norway, Spain, United Kingdom and the United States. Covering 1980 to 1995, the paper highlights cross-national concerns as well as possibilities for developing women’s roles in the care profession.
