Kirkpatrick and beyond: a review of training evaluation

The Kirkpatrick model of training evaluation has been popular since the 1960s. This report argues that, despite the existence of this model, many UK organisations are questioning the appropriateness of their training evaluation methods. The report critically examines the Kirkpatrick model and compares it with other training evaluation models. A model of the learning process is developed to provide a basis for any approach to training evaluation. Current knowledge about evaluation and the factors that affect training effectiveness are reviewed.
