'Quest', published quarterly, is the newsletter of Adult Learning Australia (ALA), the peak Australian non-government organisation (NGO) for adult and community education (ACE). This issue discusses flexible learning and e-learning in the delivery of adult education courses. Other items featured are: 'Whakamana te tuapapa o Tangata Motuhake: rebuilding foundations and participation' by John Cross (p. 8-9), which reports on the ACE Aotearoa National Conference held in New Zealand in May 2003; 'What is literacy?' by Jane Speechley (p. 10-11) whish discusses literacy as a theme of Adult Learner's Week 2003; 'Learning from vampires' by Louise Katz (p. 15) which demonstrates the diversity of backgrounds of students in adult education; 'Learning circles: a continuing Australian success' by Mary Hannan (p. 16) which evaluates the benefits of learning circle programs; 'Learning communities: Lithgow' by John Cross (p. 17) which focuses on the town of Lithgow in New South Wales and its experiences with establishing itself as a learning community.
