Informal learning: an explanatory study of unstructured learning experiences of T&I teachers enrolled in an alternative teacher education program

This article examines the role of informal learning in the training of trade and industrial (T&I) teachers, whose training usually involves a higher degree of on the job training than that of academic teachers. It summarises results of a study carried out over three years, which attempted to provide evidence on the extent and nature of informal learning by new T&I teachers. The results of the study confirm the importance of informal learning and emphasise the need for further research, as the unstructured nature of informal learning means that it lacks a methodology to focus the lessons learned through it.
