This discussion paper provides a summary of the current state of play in flexible learning and poses questions relating to the future of flexible learning in relation to businesses, people and communities. The paper suggests that, while there is no universal definition of flexible learning, the principle of choice is central, offering training providers many challenges and opportunities. In particular, it is suggested that the important challenge is to use new technologies to their best effect in the provision of vocational education and training (VET) in Australia.
