The introduction of competency based training and assessment into the Australian workforce led the way to the restructure of training and assessment for Australian workers. Restructuring of the workplace has resulted in the upskilling of the workforce, the motivation of workers to gain qualifications in the workplace and the emergence of partnerships between educational institutions and industry. This paper discusses the establishment of effective assessment processes, including recognition of prior learning (RPL), which are intended to ensure the value of workplace learning. Practical examples and case studies are used to explore strategies for linking workplace learning to effective learning within organisations.
