The author describes the change in the demands placed on trainees by enterprises and enterprise strategies of trainee assessment. Enterprise expectations with regard to trainees are increasingly based on work and production processes; integrative qualifications are becoming more important. Three-stage selection procedures have become the norm: application assessment, written or practical aptitude test and interview. Many companies have basic problems in recognising and evaluating the desired skills.
